The pieces of the jigsaw puzzle give you an impression of the contests and the trainingscamp of the first two weeks of the new year 2008 in Austria. Normally we go to the races in Elmen and Ehrwals, organised by the DASSC. But because of certain circumstances those races were cancelled. That's why we ended up in Mauterndorf. We've been here before in 1997, on the European Championship. This year there was a race held by the ÖSHS. To our regret this wasn't a success. The weathergods weren't on our side and the trail was also not so good. There weren't enough signs to mark the trail which made it difficult to stay on track. The second day was cancelled because the trail was iced and couldn't be used anymore. The so called musherevening was a big hit and very special because it was in a citadel.
The race was graded normally despite the fact we could only race one day. You can find the results here.

Because of the soft winter weather we had to go higher up to the snow. In SChönfeld, on 1700 metres, was a trainingscamp to pass the time between the next race. We could train here everyday and there was a trail especially for sleddogteams. On these trainingscamps you can enjoy the dogs to the fullest, slide of the mountain and if you like get a tan.

For the dogs this means mainly: walking around freely and recover from the race and the training.
Because this is also our holiday we've also enjoyed our free time.

Keeping the nect race in mind we've trained the dogs relaxed and let the sisters Phoebe and Piper play.

After Schönfeld we went to Werfenweng and met some strong opponents in the 8 dogs team. The SSD organised this well visited race. As always everything was organised well and despite the higher temperatures the team ran very well. Only the distance was what short for a bigger team, but that was maybe also a plus because of the warm weather.
