The DASSC organized a cart race on the Outdoor Valley terrain last weekend. The organization turned made it a good race despite the rain.  The musher evening was very nice and the ambiance was very relaxed.

The first cart race is over. This year the forests around Grolloo set the stage for the ninth time for the howling and for the spectators to see and experience a beautiful spectacle from nearby. It’s very nice that the dogs can stay in this environment full of forest. The trail was completely different than the years before and that together with the lack of puddles.

Grolloo was a nice experience for us. The pups could walk freely around, which brought us a lot of joy.

Sometimes you're looking for an answer that stand close to you or a confirmation or supplement on the opinion you use. Concerning our dogs we never focus on the trainability but on the bond between the dogs and us. Today we came a lot further with our quest on how to communicate better with our dogs.

Kacey Cover is a American animal trainer, who has years of experience with dolphins en sea lions.
She focuses on the communication with the animal in stead of the training. One of her students is the Dutch
Erica Bokelmann and through her we’ve met the founder of the SATS communication technique. We were impressed and it was full of recognition of the fact that training isn’t the most important but communication is.

The Lastingrun kennel wants to thank Kacey and Erika for their patients and enthusiasm and their knowledge which will be used by us for sure.

Every beginning is hard and in some cases it's nice to have some help when you're are starting the sleddogsport.
We were still looking for a good place for Diamond, and Sandra and André had a good adress, but not a Diamond.
So we've decided to bring the three together. The lasing-run kennel has a good feeling about this combination and we wish Sandra, André and Diamond a lot of fun in the sleddogsport

The training is in full swing off course, the dogs are very enthusiastic and noticeably happy. That the time is there again to do what they love; RUNNING. After the job is don there is time for cooling down and drinking as you can
see on the picture.

The sisters Phoebe and Piper are playing with each other as if nothing is different. Nature is sometimes harsh and understandable, the sisters are playing on, growling, rolling and climbing. Nature let somelive and others not,
the sisters are sleeping and drinking by their mother… anddon not miss their brother. Nature gives and takes.
Unfortunately was mother Nature not so positive forlittle Leo and little Leo is gone.
Leo had problems with his metabolism the last days, there was a constriction on the end of his digestive tract.
An operation didn’t help and Leo lost the fight for survival.

Dear Leo, little brother farewell

Because we were still looking for a good home forJewel and Marcel and Anita were looking for good company for their remaining dog, we figured it out together…. Jewel was the perfect fit.As you can see on the picture is everybody very happy.
We wish Jewel, Anita and Marcel good luck and a lot of fun

Although Klaas Wijnberg is a product of de conservative behavior therapy or cynology in common, to his own say, but he’s succeeded to break free of this thought.

His view isn’t based on the fact dogs need training
to learn something but a solid trustbase is, which
can be leaded back to the insight of the behavior
and manner of the animal self, in this case the dog.

For sofar nothing new for us as lasting run kennel, but his lecture, which was held in Gorinchem, was very pleasant an mainly full of recognition. Klaas Wijnberg is a special personality and de style he handles is very to the point, clarifying and humorous.

The magazine ‘Love them ® dedicated an article to our team and the sport. You can read the article online by the link Petsfamily. It’s also available through a PDF-file. You can find the article about the kennel on page 22.

To see the growth of the puppies we’ve made a page with photos and the weight of the puppies from week till week.
September 23
We’ve found a theme forthe litter and with that the names for the puppies. The TV-show Charmed has a few names which suited the puppies well. The names we picked are: Phoebe, Piper and Leo.

September 19
There’s an photo page made of the puppies. It’s still scanty, but within days or weeks it will become bigger and the number of photos will be enlarged. Check out the results for now…

Last night Princess gave birth between 2 and 4 a.m.The male came first. He came a little wearisome, but with some help it worked out. The next puppies were 2 females. We will make a photopage as soon as possible, so keep an eye on the site.

Klaas Wijnberg gives regularly lectures. On October 2th we are going

Normally we would go sleddog grant in Völklingen (D), but a nice alternative has occurred.
Instead of Völklingen we go to Kiruna. In Swedish Kiruna there is a weekend organised by the Kiruna sleddogclub. It's a splendid occasion of meeting Harris and Ginger Dunlap.
For further information     Or look on the site of the KSHK

The yearly veterinary check up was today. During this visit the dogs are checked and if there are problems they will be examined and solved. Because we go to Swedenthis year, the dogs are vaccinated for rabies again.
After a few months their bloodwill be tested if their bodies made enough antibodies. This is compulsory by the Swedish government before dogs are allowed toe imported inthe country
There’s also an x-ray made of the pregnancy of Princess. On the x-ray we could see 2 puppiesclearly. And the contour of an other puppy. But we aren’t sure about the last.
Although we hoped for more puppies, we are still happy that Princess is pregnant

Princess is 5 weeks pregnant and that shows. The last few days she gained about 1 kilo and she has grown visibly in size.
Despite she’s pregnant, she’s still very active as you can see on the thumbnails

In the eighties Dr. Roland Lombard came with the idea to put the Siberian Husky trough a work test.
Lombard was at that moment concerned about the fact that many Siberian Huskies were bred without looking at the work qualities… read more

Litter announcement:  We’ve decided to try to take a litter with Princessthis year.
She’s from the Trinity kennels of Petra Nölle.
Petra decided to stop with the sport and her successful career and gave us the opportunity to let Princess join our team.

As stud dog we wanted to use a dog from the Reebook line. We chose Kashmir and we hope to make a good basis for the future with this combination. (Click on the photo for the pedigree)

In cooperation with Petsfamily, we’ve got a site on their website, where we tell about the kennel and the dogs. Click here for the result.
February 26
After a relative silence, it’s time for an update of the website. Ofcourse we haven’t sat still the last year, but the season wasn’t what we expected, also due the lack of snow this winter, so we’re going to focus on the new challenges of the next season.  A new round, new changes, sort of speak!

With an eye on the future we’re composing a new 6-dog team. Last summer we’ve had a litter with Yollie. She gave birth to three healthy daughters (Jewel, Pearl and Diamond). Last winter the pups played in the snow and next season they go for the real deal.

.An other new edition to the kennel is a fantastic lead dog, Princess. She is 4 years and suits her name. We want a litter from her this year, but because finding the right combination is difficult, we’re looking for a good stud dog for quite a while. At the moment we found a good dog here  in the Netherlands, so we just have to wait until she’s in heat.

Further we built new boxes, because the old ones, who we enjoyed for years, needed replacement. Underneath are some photos of the new boxes.

December 31
The last day of the year, in Holland lays snow, just like in the rest of  Europe. We hope that the weather gods are kind to us this new year/season. It’s amazing that we will to everything to run inthe snow with our dogs.
But if you think about the joy the dogs have whilerunning in the snow, we can’t do otherwise.
That’s why it’s amazing that thesport is practiced all over the world. We know about Alaska, the USA.
And thatthe sport is practiced in Europe is also well known, but there are also peoplein New Zealand,
South Africa, etc. It’s unusually, but known. On the logo underneath is a team from the other side of the world. The website of the team is beautifully made

December 13
The cartseason has come to an end with the finally race in Heerden. The conditions where great at the first day, this you can see on the picture underneath. Now it is December the snow season is knocking on the door.
The Dutch championship is the first event on the calendar, before there will be trained in the snow.
Click on the photo for more information about past cart races
November 22
We’ve run the second cart race. Grolloo is and stays the best locationfor a race. Our 6-dog team came in third in the class. In the morning it was chilly, that’s good for the dogs to make them go faster. As we do more we shifted the dogs in position to see how they held in a situation different from the training at home.
On the site of Sander and Aafke you can find a film of Grolloo. Click on the picture below to see the film.

November09
To try your luck in a foreign country is a big stap, especially when you give everything up in The Netherlands..
Good friends of ours took the step en left to live with their dogs in Sweden to make a sleddog team for tourists.
We can follow there adventures from Holland

October30
The season started again, despite the warm weather the training startedagain. It’s difficult to find the right time on the day to train the dogs. For many people a blessing, the continuing sunny and warm weather, but for us sporters with sled dogs very difficult. The first cartrace was also hindered because of the weather. The first day was cancelled for this reason on the new location of the Kempentrail. This race is the replacement of the E3 strand race. Which is an understanding in the Dutch sled dog world. The Kempentrail is a worthy successor, this is because of the variation of the trail through the forest area. We run with the open team in front of the quad.

August 28
The seasons calendar is partially known, with thanks to and permission of Canis Polaris, a link below.

The ISDRA has a department that delivered a variety of publications inthe past.  The department is called
HOWL and gave the lasting-run kennel permission to publish and translate an article about stress heating.
We’ve tried to keep the same layout as published by Dr. R. Downey
